Lighting & Camera Setup
I used my Canon EOS R5 with both Canon 100mm macro lens, as well as Canon RF 50mm F1.2 lens to shoot this set of portraits. For this shoot I utilized a Savage C-Stand to support the reflector while using StellaPro Reflex S lights at half power to illuminate it directly onto reflector and reflector respectively – although eventually added another StellaPro light in the background as hair light for some added separation and depth of field effects.
By firing our main light into a Westcott Silver Reflector, we create a larger light source which softens light for better skin tones. Plus, because its surface is silver, its specularity or contrasty qualities add some flair that make for stunning beauty portraits.
Final images
At the conclusion of our shoots, you can clearly see where we added a hair light. To achieve this look we added another Reflex S light in the background with medium optic, barn doors, and CTO gel for orange hue. I like to position mine near the top of the frame; otherwise it won’t look right if not situated high enough in my viewfinder. In these images I used Canon RF 50mm F1.2 lens.
