Look #1: Natural Light

Alissa was photographed using only natural light, so I slightly overexposed her photograph so as not to see any shadows form under her eyes.

Pros: Soft look & feel that was perfect for the scene. Cons: Highlights were overexposed in postproduction; though I can still recover some of this image through post-processing techniques, some may not find this image to their liking.

Look #2: Off-Camera Flash – Profoto A2

Alissa needed something extra sparkly in her eyes, so I turned to the Profoto A2 for this look. Additionally, I added a dome diffuser to further soften its light.

Though the lighting was relatively soft, it still made a noticeable impact as you can see from the final images below. Thanks to additional illumination, I no longer needed to overexpose and overexposed the sky; additionally, shadows under their eyes had vanished entirely.

Overall, the A2 created a balanced image that has an organic look and feel.

Look #3: Off-Camera Flash – Profoto B10+

Finally, I wanted to create an image with dark and dramatic tones while still remaining soft. For this, I decided to use the Profoto B10+ off-camera flash with a 3′ Octa Softbox as light created an extremely dark sky – an entirely unique look from any previous lighting setups.
