Photography may seem simple enough at first glance, but getting your images into people’s lives and onto walls can be much trickier. Communicating your artistic vision to different levels is rewarding in itself; but what really seals the deal for our creative mission is receiving payment for our vision… Regardless of whether your skillset or creative approach is highly technical or time sensitive or simple and objective or even call-to-action–there is always money available!

As this is our goal, let’s look at both traditional and innovative approaches I have used personally and professionally to increase sales of wall art photography today.

1. Let Your Voice Be Heard
In an age of an abundance of content creators and more affordable photography equipment, you must differentiate yourself. Don’t shy away from being boldly self-promotional and individualistic; establish an official web presence such as a website plus domain. Establish a sense of professionalism through image-heavy social platforms such as Instagram or other emerging ones like Tumblr or new ones coming out soon, such as FineArtAmerica, Etsy RedBubble and eBay. Think of these efforts as opportunities to advertise yourself rather than selling photographs or art pieces. Some of them I offer gift cards as a means of getting my content in front of eye, while still directing customers back to my website or gallery for full artwork purchases if there are concerns regarding quality/brand control issues with any pieces they buy from me. I often tell people that customers find my content on various sales channels and then click through to my direct and enhanced website, making them advertising channels rather than simply sales platforms. Furthermore, one of my colleagues runs an excellent blog with content easily found through online searches or browsing.
